Combined and staged contouring plans · which areas travel together · the operative-time assessment
Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.
His assessment begins by translating the goal into tissue. He establishes which part of the complaint is fat, which is skin and which is neither, because that decides the operation for each area rather than for the plan as a whole. He then pairs areas by what they share on the operating table, the garment they will need and the recovery they will impose together, and he budgets the whole proposal in operating time rather than in areas. Where the proposal exceeds what a safe anaesthetic should carry, he shortens the list rather than stretching the time, and he says which area is being left for later and why. Where weight is still moving, or a single area carries the whole complaint, he says so and offers the smaller plan.
Clinical focus
A longer list is not a more thorough plan
Combining areas is a trade rather than an upgrade. It buys one anaesthetic, one admission and one period away from work, and it costs a longer operation, a recovery governed by the most demanding area, and marks in every area treated. A patient who wanted the combination and understood that trade judges the result fairly. A patient who accepted it because it sounded more complete has paid a longer recovery for areas the examination did not require.
